Most people have experienced last minute road trip preparation because sometimes life can be crazy and schedule can be tight. While you may probably have packed your bags just fine, some people often forget to prepare the car for the trip which is more important because your car’s condition can make or break your actual road trip experience. So if you really running late and you only have 10 minutes left to spare, here are some quick checks you can do to ensure your vehicle is actually ready to go.
Check All Fluids
Clutch fluid, which is often the same with brake fluid, coolant, windshield wash and power steering fluid should be at appropriate level, especially if you’re going on a long ride. Otherwise you’d be risking accident or breakdown on the road.
Check All Hoses And Belts
A belt that fails can affect the electrical system, air conditioning, power steering as well as the cooling system. All of this can not only make your road trip less ideal but it can also jeopardize your safety on the road.
Check Your Tires
Tires heat up and wears faster on long trips, add that to a hot weather and you’re a sure candidate for blowouts. So you better see to it that you’re not driving with really worn tires, if you are then replacing them before you leave is a must.
Check You Lights
Sit in your car, turn each light or signal and have someone see if they’re working or not. Don’t settle with blinking lights; if they’re not fully functional replace the bulbs. Don’t wait until it’s time to go before you do this because it takes time. Bringing spare bulbs for each light won’t hurt either, just in case.
Always Keep Non-Faulty Emergency Equipment In Your Trunk
Okay, you’re confident that you’re complete with emergency equipment if something goes wrong on the road. But the question is did you check if they’re working? There’s no point on having them on board if you won’t be able to use them when you need them the most.
This quick pre-trip inspection will help reduce your chances of costly and potentially dangerous road trouble as well as stressful car repairs on the way to your destination.
