Rusts on your car is not only unsightly to look at but also means your vehicle’s value drops as the damage develops. If the area affected by rust is very small, repairing it on your own is still an option. But if the rust has eaten through the metal or if the damage is extensive, you’ll need to seek professional car repair services. This way you’re guaranteed to get recommendations on how best to deal with the rust damage.

1. Wash Your Car Regularly
Driving regularly means you’re car is always getting in contact with dirt, debris and other chemicals on the road. All of these things contribute to rust formation on your car’s exterior. To prevent this, the first thing that you should be on top of is being consistent with car wash. This should be done at least once every two weeks. Don’t forget to keep your car’s drain plugs clear, otherwise this will lead to water accumulation and rust formation. If you regularly wash your car, you should see to it that you wax your vehicle at least once a month in order to provide a barrier between the metals and the water. Lastly, always clean up spills immediately. Don’t let it sit for too long or it will be harder to clean it off and will lead to rust.

2. Use Products That Prevent Rust
In addition to washing your vehicle regularly, you can have your vehicle pre-treated to help prevent rust. Have this done by the manufacturer when first buying the car. Another option is to treat suspect areas whenever you wash your car with an anti-rust spray. Look for chipped paint or areas that look like bubbles in the paint. These areas are an indication that rust has begun to corrode the part of the vehicle just under the paint. Clean the area around the bubbling or chipped paint. Allow the vehicle to dry and apply an anti-rust spray to your car to help prevent rust damage before it begins.

3. Wipe Down Car Surfaces
Yes the sun and wind can easily dry your car, but letting your vehicle dry that way will leave unsightly water marks which not only renders your hard work useless but also causes moisture to seep through and develop rust. Use a microfiber towel or preferably a weave drying towel to absorb the water and dry the car. This also applies to your car interior. Letting moisture sit for too long on any surface of the car is bound to cause damage.

4. Treat Rust Spots Early
Rust spreads if left untreated, so deal with it when the first signs appear. Don’t forget to obtain your touch-up paint from a reputable automotive parts retailer or body shop. Match it up with your car’s paint code that you will find on a placard under the hood or on the driver’s side door pillar. Sand the affected area. Scuff the surface. To further break down the affected area and prepare it for new paint, use a scuffing pad. Scuffing pads create a rough surface, which is easier for the paint to stick to. Rub the scuff pad along the path of the corroded area back and forth until the surface feels rough to the touch. Tape off areas where you don’t want the paint to get onto like the headlights.  Apply primer. This is necessary if the damage have gone through the primer. Let the primer dry overnight before you begin painting.  Shake the touch-up paint well to ensure that it will leave an even color deposit. Dab the touch-up paint onto the paint chip. Be light handed to make sure that just enough paint is being applied that covers all edges of the affected area. Let it dry for at least 15 minutes before you apply another layer. Be sure to use thin layers, slowing building up until the replacement paint matches the original paint. Re-apply clear coat. Ones you’ve matched the paint and have let it dry for at least 2 days you can now apply the clear coat. Replacement clear coat typically comes in an aerosol can and can be sprayed directly onto the vehicle. Wax the whole vehicle. To prevent a small section of your car from being shinier than the rest of your paint, apply a coat of wax to the whole car.

This way you can be certain that you’re getting the most out of your money.

1. Reliability/Durability
If you’re gonna invest money on a car, you’d want it to last as long as possible without trips to the car servicing every week for repair. This is why the top priority of car buyers is the vehicle’s reliability and durability.

2. Interior Comfort
More leg room, power-adjustable seats, seat ventilation, massaging functionality, and rear-seat foot rest are just some of the comfortable features more and more car buyers favor.

3. Exterior Styling
Who wants to drive a visually unappealing car? No one! So while it may seem superficial to some, still you can’t deny that exterior styling is an important factor in buying a vehicle.

Why spend more money when there's a cost saving alternative? There are a lot of fuel economy-friendly car model these days that consumers can choose from that don’t just save money but help reduce carbon footprint and increase energy sustainability.

5. Quality Of Workmanship
You can really tell a high-end car apart from not because of the quality of workmanship. A car just looks more finished and expensive without necessarily costing more when it is built well and better.

6. Convenient Or Likable Dealer
Cordial dealers who go out of their way to make things easier for their clients sell more cars than those who aren’t. This is because consumers like to get the best deals possible and be treated well.

7. Performance
Well, this may not be always at the top reason for a person to buy a car but this will always be among the factors that will be considered. Otherwise it’ll be the main source of problem the car owner will face in a daily basis as well as the reason for frequent car repairs.

8. Advanced Technology

Things About Your Car Air Conditioning Unit That You Should Know

Just imagine your AC unit not working properly, everyone from the driver to the passengers in the car will suffer. So it should be among your car concerns to get to know your car air conditioning more.
When you live in a tropical country, driving with your air condition unit running is must. That is unless you like driving uncomfortable and drenched in your own sweat. Just imagine your AC unit not working properly, everyone from the driver to the passengers in the car will suffer. So it should be among your car concerns to get to know your car air conditioning more.

Savings
Having air conditioning unit in your car makes driving around in tropical countries easier. However, despite the comfort that it provides it also means you’re consuming more gas at a faster rate, especially during summer because the unit has to work harder to keep your car cool. But if you get your windows tinted, you’ll be able to save money and gasoline. Window films blocks not just the sunlight but as well as the heat from penetrating your vehicle, so you wouldn’t have to run the AC unit on full blast just to keep the interior cool.

Your Filters
We know it’s necessary to replace air filters because dirty ones restrict airflow and causing the AC system to run longer and use more energy. But only some actually do this. Be more diligent and make a reminder of it on your calendar so that you don’t ‘forget’ to do it every month.

Vents
The distinctive smell of mildew flooding out of your air vents is usually caused by a buildup of bacteria and mold. This can happen to older cars that have had bacteria growing behind the dashboard for years and in cars that rarely run the air conditioning, as they don’t enjoy the drying effects that it provides to excess water on the coils. So if you do your own car cleaning, make sure you clean your car AC vents too.

It Won’t Turn On
Driving when the AC unit is not working can be an unpleasant experience. On extremely hot days, an air conditioning system can overheat and this can cause the fan to burn out. A broken dial can also affect your ability to switch the auto air conditioning on, as well as a broken switch, a stuck valve, a wiring fault, a blown fuse or an obstruction in the air ducts. So if you’re having this issue, it’s best that a professional can take a look at it fix the problem and not let it get any worse.

AC System Is Blowing Hot Air
This can really suck because if there’s anything worse than an AC unit not working at all is an AC unit blowing hot air instead of cool air. When this happens, you’re probably looking at variety of reasons like damaged cooling fans, a blocked or broken condenser, an internal obstruction, an electrical fault, and/or low refrigerant levels. When this happens, it’s best that you take your car to a trusted car servicing center right away to get it checked and fixed as soon as possible.

It Won’t Turn Off
This doesn’t seem like a problem until you’re getting too cold behind the wheel and you’re consuming way too much fuel than you usually do or your car’s battery gets drained because the AC keeps running even with the engine switched off. The culprit behind this can range from faulty or loose ribbon cable, broken controls / dial stuck in the “on” position, broken selector switch, shorted blower resistor, shorted blower motor relay, shorted a/c controller, and/or shorted blower control circuit.

6 Troubles You May Experience While Driving That Can Really Freak You Out And How To React To Them

there are some situations that will just catch you off guard. Here are some of them that hopefully don’t happen to anyone but would help anyone to prepare for.
The thing about driving a car on the road is that no matter how precautions you are and no matter how skilled you are as a driver, there are some situations that will just catch you off guard. Here are some of them that hopefully don’t happen to anyone but would help anyone to prepare for.

1. The Clutch Won’t Come Back
When you drive a manual and your clutch goes limp all of a sudden, it can be a real problem especially if you’re going fast. Park on the side of the road as soon as you can then pop the hood, chances are you’re low on clutch fluid and you need to fill it up.

2. Smoke Starts Coming Out From The Hood
Definitely don’t panic and jump out of your car when this happens! This could mean one of the fluids is leaking or dripping onto an extremely hot part of the engine, which means smoke doesn’t automatically means it’s on fire. In this case, you need to stop driving to let the car cool down if you intend to inspect under the hood. But if you don’t have any idea with such issues it’s best to call a friend or tow to take it to car servicing.

3. The Brakes Stopped Working
Again, do not panic once you notice your brakes aren’t working. You have to stay sharp and look for ways to stop the car without causing too much damage on it and you or other passengers of you have them on board. Fields, grassy medians, and hills are the best way to naturally slow down your car. If there isn’t any, another option would be to use less concrete things like chain links to crash the car, it will halt your car without too much damage. Anyhow, as long as you’re able to immobilize your vehicle, a paint job or car polishing shouldn’t be a huge sacrifice compared to staying safe and keeping your engine intact.

4. You Crash Into An Electric Truck And Copper Poles Crash Through Your Window
As ridiculous as this may seem, this actually happens. Try your best to stay calm and contact your area’s emergency hotline for immediate help. Once you’re out of the car and safe, you can start worrying about car servicing.

5. Your Tire Blows Out
Hearing a blast can really be startling what more if it’s your car’s tire? Don’t freak out and remember to slow down! Pull in to the side of the road then start changing your car. Let’s just hope you have a spare tire, if you don’t you’ll have to call for tow.

Yes, when this happens it’s hard not to freak out because your car is going out of control. However, you have to keep in mind not to start stomping on the pedals and over steering. Get yourself together and take your foot off the gas and brake, just focus on trying to make subtle steering movements.

Top 4 Common Signs Of A Bad Or Failing Radiator

As your car’s cooling system, radiators prevent engines from overheating and engine blocks from cracking with heat. So if you start noticing signs indicated below, make sure you take your vehicle to the car servicing shop right away to prevent the damage from getting worse and car repair costs starts piling up.

1. Leaking Coolant Onto The Floor
The coolant, as the name suggests, helps the radiator to cool down.  However, when there’s a leak or crack in the radiator, you’ll see coolant leak on the floor underneath your car, since the coolant flows through the radiator.

2. Overheating
When dirt, bugs, or road grime gets stuck and accumulate in your radiator, it becomes harder for the air to flow through it. As a result, it’s harder to cool the engine especially when the vehicle is stopped and the radiator have to rely on just the fan to keep it cool which is why it overheats even when idle.

3. Sludge In The Radiator
The coolant in your vehicle should be yellow or green or red normally. As the radiator goes bad, contaminants discolor the fluid making it a rusty or oil color. This turns into sludge and the fluid will not be able to cool the engine efficiently because it will not drain properly and remain in the radiator. This can be from a failing radiator for vehicles that contain a transmission cooler inside the radiator. The barrier between the coolant and transmission fluid fails and the fluids mix. If you or a mechanic notice sludge in your radiator, it will need to be replaced as it can cause extensive damage to the engine and transmission.

4. Low Coolant
If the level is below the minimum line, top it up to the maximum line and monitor on a daily basis. If you have to top up the coolant reservoir each time it is checked, this could indicate a leak. If it seems that you vehicle is always low on coolant then it’s reasonable to suspect that your radiator have gone bad or at least failing.

10 Ways You’re Causing Premature Damage To Your Car

Crashing your car on that pole isn’t the only way to wreck your ride and spend thousands of dollars on car repair. You’d be surprised that sometimes even a seemingly simple mistake can drain your bank account. Here are some of those mistakes that you should definitely try to avoid.
Crashing your car on that pole isn’t the only way to wreck your ride and spend thousands of dollars on car repair. You’d be surprised that sometimes even a seemingly simple mistake can drain your bank account. Here are some of those mistakes that you should definitely try to avoid.

1. Failing To Change Oil And Filters And Other Simple Maintenance
If you think you’re saving money by passing up on basic maintenance like oil and filter change, think again. Because what you refused to pay for now, means thousands of dollars in auto repair bills tomorrow due to major damage or malfunction.

2. Driving On Bald Or Under/Over Inflated Tires
This means they shouldn’t be overinflated nor underinflated. Otherwise they’ll wear out faster than they typically should and will affect vehicle handling and fuel economy. To avoid this, check your owner’s manual for recommended tire pressure and always stick to that. It’s best to check your tires’ pressure at least once a month but do it more often if you always go on long trips or you carry heavy loads all the time.

We’re all guilty of this sometimes. It’s either we’re too busy or we simply assume it’s nothing serious. But this habit is actually the reason we get ambushed with major problems. If you listen to your car when it’s whispering, you won’t have to hear it scream.

4. Driving On Fumes
When cars had carburetors, you could drive them until all the gas was gone, refuel, and drive again with no problem. However, cars nowadays are mostly fuel injected engines that rely on in-tank electric pumps that use the gas to cool and lubricate their components. With these kinds of cars, driving on fumes can lead to pump failure which can be a very costly repair.

5. Roaming Around With Burned-Out Lights
This may seem not as important but driving in the middle of the road with your horns or lights not working, or the signal transmission failing may lead to accidents and other problem. Do not take this for granted.

6. Attempting To Jump Start Without Knowing How
Putting jumper cables in your trunk doesn't mean you automatically know how to jump-start a car. If you don't use jumper cables properly, you can fry your car ... or yourself. Though the procedure is really simple, you should learn how to do it before you actually need to. Not standing on the side of the highway while reading this article on your phone. That's dangerous.

7. Haphazard Electric Work
You’d be wise to leave electrical repairs to the expert, except from replacing fuse or relay. Run-of-the-mill electrical repairs are so intricate that one mistake can make more things go haywire.

8. Sloppy Lube Job
Every latching, pivoting, suspension and locking component you find in your car needs to be lubricated. This is one important form of preventive maintenance that is often overlooked but should be a mandatory part of any routine service stop. Don’t wait until something is stuck and won’t budge because they’re already corroded.

9. Forgetting To Tighten The Oil Filter
It’s important to have the right size wrench to remove and replace your oil filter -- if the wrench wraps around the canister too loosely, it might feel like you're cranking hard without actually making any progress. If you switch filter types, your old wrench might not work anymore. Make sure you check the fit before you leave the parts counter.

10. Not Taking The Time To Inspect Your Car
Just do a run down once in a while, check how the tires, lights, is there any kind of strange sound when you drive it, or anything out of ordinary at all. Spotting irregularities early on could save your car from serious damage in the future and a lot of money on car repair. A noise or smell from your car may be trivial, but you should always get it checked out to be on the safe side.

Top 9 Mistakes You’re Doing In Cleaning Your Car

Sometimes, because people don’t know how to properly clean their cars, they end up damaging it. Remember that even if you do clean your car, it doesn’t count if you’re not doing it right.

Unclean car isn’t only unsightly but can also lead to unnecessary car repairs. While it’s easy to assume that this shouldn’t be an issue nowadays since there’s ample access to car polishing here in Singapore, a busy schedule and tight budget makes it more difficult.

On the other hand, just because you clean your car doesn’t mean you’re doing a good job  with it. Sometimes, because people don’t know how to properly clean their cars, they end up damaging it. Remember that even if you do clean your car, it doesn’t count if you’re not doing it right.

1. Using Dish washing Liquid As Cleaning Agent
You have to remember that your car is made of completely different materials than your dishes or clothes, etc. So don’t assume that the cleaners that you use to clean the rest of your house will also do with your car. Buy a car shampoo that works specifically well with getting stubborn dirt and grime off your paintwork without causing damage.

2. Using Abrasive Cloths
Always use microfiber cloths when cleaning your car. It only takes a rough towel or dirt on a towel to scratch your precious paint job. Do not risk it and make sure you’re always using clean microfiber cloth to wipe your car with.

3. Cleaning Under Direct Sunlight
If you think that cleaning your car under direct sunlight is a good idea because it will reduce drying time, think again. Yes it may help dry the car fast but it can also cause smears, water spots, and residue which are never a good idea for your car.

4. Removing Missed Patches With A Drying Cloth
It happens to the best of us: you rinse your car, only to find you’ve missed a bit. But, instead of reaching for the cleaning cloth (the recommended solution), you attack the spot with your drying cloth – a big no-no. By rubbing a mucky mark with a dry cloth, you’ll effectively work the dirt into the paint, or at the very least cause a stubborn swirl mark. Remember – never clean your car with a dry cloth.

5. Applying Products Directly To The Paintwork
The golden rule is to dilute and apply to cloth first. Dilute cleaning products to water and apply polishing products to cloth first. Don’t even think of cutting this process short by applying the products directly to the paintwork. The damage that over-applying of products may cause is not worth the seconds you may have saved on cleaning.

6. Thinking One Bucket Is Enough
Always use two buckets when cleaning your car, one for washing and one for rinsing. It just doesn’t make sense to use the same water filled with dirt and suds to rinse the car.

7. Cleaning The Wheels Last
Just because your wheels are at the bottom part of your vehicle doesn’t mean it should be the last part to be washed. If you do, you will end up splashing dirt and suds back into an already cleaned part which you’ll have to clean again.

Majority of people loves a shiny car. This is why it’s easy to get carried away with waxing. However, any more than 2 coats of wax can lead to over-buffing and removing earlier coats. This then not only waste time and effort on waxing, but can also risk damage on the paint you’re supposed to be applying protection to.

9. Skipping Towel Drying
Although it’s not always necessary to towel dry your motor, if you’re going to do it, at least use the right towel. Unless you want to scratch the paintwork, never use a standard household towel, or a chamois for that matter. Instead, use a dry microfiber cloth to quickly remove excess moisture.

Car repairs don’t come cheap. Actually they can really be hefty especially if it’s been awhile since your last maintenance and its condition is quite bad already. Take car re-painting for instance, when your paint gets damaged, you can’t just fix the damaged part, you have to repaint the entire car. If you don’t like to spend a huge amount of money trying to fix your car’s paint, better pay attention to this. They may seem nothing but could lead to serious damage in your vehicle if not taken care of.
